The older I get, the more important I realize it is to create your own lane (i.e. opportunities). In this day and age, if you’ve got all your eggs in one basket and are relying on one source of income, my dear, you’re in trouble. With the many advances in technology and the rise of social media, it’s easier than ever to create your own lane and share your work with the world. You have value and the more opportunities you create for yourself, the better. Whether it’s writing, coaching or creating media content, here are seven reasons to create your own lane:
It’s the Right Fit For You:
If you’ve ever applied for a job based on a job description, I’m sure you’ve had that feeling that you were trying to twist yourself to fit into someone else’s box. When you create your own lane, however, you have the chance to create opportunities that are the right fit for you and your skill set.
You Write Your Own Rules:
When you create your own lane, you don’t have to play by someone else’s rules; you get to write your own. When you get to write the rules, you have the power to write the rules that work best for you. And what could be better than writing your own rules (By the way – we’ve got a shirt for that)?
When you create your own lane, the only person you’re competing with is yourself. You don’t have to worry about battling it out for scarce opportunities because you’re creating your own. When you create your own lane, you’re only limited by your imagination.
Share Your Unique View:
There’s no one like you and that is your super power. Seriously, when you create your own lane, it’s your opportunity to share your unique view with your audience. Never underestimate the power of your unique view.
When you create your own lane, you don’t have to worry about someone trying to limit you or having to break through glass ceilings. Your only limits are your imagination and how hard you’re willing to work.
Attracting the Right People and Opportunities:
According to the law of attraction, like attracts like. When you create your own lane, you’re more likely to attract the people and opportunities that best align with you and your vision.
The last, but probably most important reason why you should be creating your own lane is because of the freedom it provides. There’s nothing quite like having the freedom to do what you want, when you want, how you want.
