If you’ve been keeping up with the 2016 Olympics, you’ve probably noticed that the US Women went to Rio to handle their business. As of the time I’m writing this article, the US Women were responsible for 21 of the United States’ 35 gold medals. In other words, they’re crushing it! With so many impressive performances from the US Women, it’s hard to pick a top 5, but I’ll do it anyway:
The US Women’s Swim Team showed up and showed out, collectively, and individually. They took home gold in both the 4 X 100m and 4 X 200m Medley relay races. Not bad ladies, not bad at all.
2. Katie Ledecky
While we’re talking about the US Women’s Swim Team, we can’t forget Katie Ledecky, who took home 3 individual gold medals, while setting a world record in the 800m freestyle.
3. Simone Biles
You’ve got to be pretty damn good to have a gymnastic maneuver named after you. Simone Biles did not disappoint at the 2016 Olympics, taking home 3 individual gold medals and a bronze. Biles may be small in stature, but she turned in one giant performance after another in these Olympic games.
4. US Women’s Track Team
The US Women’s Track team made history in the 100m hurdles when Brianna Rollins, Kristi Castlin and Nia Ali swept all three medals – gold, silver and bronze, respectively; something that had never been done before by either a male or female team, from any country. Yes, folks, this is what winning looks like.
5. Michelle Carter
And last, but certainly not least is Michelle Carter, who won a gold medal in the women’s shot put. Carter is the first US woman to win gold in this category and is the most recent to even medal in the women’s category since 1960.
Why do I bring any of this up? Because I love to see people, especially women, go after their dreams and win. Watching other women go out and achieve their dreams motivates me to work a little harder to do the same.
Have you been keeping up with the 2016 Olympics? Which Team USA Women’s performance has been your favorite?
