Who among us can’t use a little more joy in our everyday lives? I, for one, sure as heck can. Everyday we’re bombarded with so many responsibilities and activities it’s hard not to get overwhelmed and unhappy. Personally, I’m working on adding more happiness and joy to my life. Here are 5 ways to add joy to your everyday life. Bonus: most of them and free!
1. Catch Some Rays:
There’s nothing like a little sunshine to lift your mood. Sunshine, for me, is one of the quickest pick me ups. Even if you have to do it on your lunch break, everyday, try to make sure you get a little dose of Vitamin D. I guarantee you, it will lift your spirits.
2. Just Be:
We’re a society bombarded with so many distractions – work, family, social media, e-mail, etc. It’s hard not to feel like a rat running on a treadmill. One way to add a little joy to your life is to simply unplug from everything and just be. No telephones, no social media, no e-mails, no nothing. Take 30 minutes everyday, find a quite spot, without any interruptions and just be. You’ll be surprised at what a little quite time can do for your mood.
3. Surround Yourself With What Makes You Happy:
Whatever it is that you love, surround yourself with it. For me, family, food and football are everything, so I indulge in 2 of the 3 as much as possible (Gotta watch too much eating – that will create other problems). Whether you love flowers, books, music, etc. add it to your everyday environment and see how it changes your mood for the better.
4. Just Dance:
Confession: I love putting on music and having a personal dance party in my living room. I’m talking about a full-blown “sing along while you dance in the mirror” dance party. My usual soundtrack of choice – Jodeci’s Greatest Hits (Don’t you dare judge me). Have you ever seen anyone dancing in a bad mood? Me either. So go ahead – crank up the music and get the party started.
5. Laugh Out Loud:
I honestly believe that laughing is some of the best “medicine” available. Everyday, treat yourself to at least one, deep, gut busting laugh. You know what they say – laughter is good for the soul.
